Building History

A color image of the Aero Engineering Lab.

Originally known as Aerospace Engineering, the laboratory was built in 1954.  The building is now called the Nancy Squires Aerospace Lab, named for the late Dr. Squires, who was instrumental in growing the Aerospace program at Oregon State.  The building was originally used as an engineering lab for Aerospace Engineering majors with the first introduction of engineering to Oregon State University and housed a wind tunnel until its removal in 2022.   From at least 1976 to 1985, the lab was managed by James R. Welty, who was an excellent researcher in the heat transfer field, with contributions in other areas as well, such as radiation and non-Newtonian fluids.

It currently houses Dr. David Blunck's Propulsion Laboratory, which supports research and many of OSU AIAA's rocketry and air-breathing propulsion teams.  As of 2023, the facility is being renovated to support other aerospace research.
