PTRC consultations typically last 30-45 minutes and are held on Zoom. If you would like to work with an OSU Librarian on patent or trademark research, just get in touch by emailing: ptrc-osu@oregonstate.edu. We'll respond within about a day.
As librarians we can help you navigate the patent or trademark search process. Before we meet, it's a good idea to perform an initial search in the patent or trademark databases.
We've developed a guide on How to Prepare.
We are not attorneys. However, if you need help getting legal representation, the USPTO maintains the Patent Pro Bono program, where regional centers will work to connect you with IP attorneys. Read about that program below, or explore the other resources for more ideas:
PTRCs like the one here at OSU are part of an outreach program of the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. The USPTO hosts many outreach programs, including regular workshops and trainings, which you can join here: USPTO Events
What's a PTRC? A Patent and Trademark Resource Center (PTRC) is a library designated by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) to help the public with patent and trademark searches. PTRCs offer free access to databases, research tools, and expert guidance to assist inventors, entrepreneurs, and businesses in understanding intellectual property. Learn more about the national PTRC program here: USPTO PTRC Program.

How can the OSU PTRC help? OSU Libraries joined the PTRC network to expand IP research support within OSU and the communities of western and central Oregon. Our librarians are ready to assist inventors and entrepreneurs to find relevant patents and trademarks, a crucial part of the process. We'll also connect you with resources that you'll need during the process. If you'd like to get in touch, here's a good way to get started: How to prepare. |
