PTRC consultations typically last 30-45 minutes and are held on Zoom. If you would like to work with an OSU Librarian on patent or trademark research, just get in touch by emailing: ptrc-osu@oregonstate.edu. We'll respond within about a day.
When searching for patent or trademark information online, be cautious. Many companies appear official but are actually intermediaries trying to insert themselves between you and the patent office. To avoid this, always use trusted sources like USPTO.gov for accurate and reliable information.
If you are unsure, you can always Ask a Librarian.
We’ll help you develop a solid search strategy for the intellectual property you're interested in. While we’re not attorneys and can’t provide legal opinions—such as whether your invention qualifies for a patent—we’re here to support you with thorough research and connections to resources at OSU and the USPTO.
Before meeting, we recommend doing a preliminary search in patent or trademark databases and familiarize yourself with the resources on this guide.
