Not to be confused with the Poling Hall built in 1918, present-day Poling Hall was constructed as a men's dormitory in 1957 to "meet space requirements demanded by an increased enrollment at Oregon State." Together with Cauthorn Hall (also constructed in 1957), Poling Hall was built behind Central Hall; Central Hall was eventually replaced with Buxton and Hawley Halls, forming the present-day quadrangle of student housing on Jefferson Way.
