The Sheep Center provides hands-on experience and education for students majoring in Animal Science at OSU. Located on 600 acres of hillside pastures, the center maintains a 100-ewe breeding flock for research and education projects. In addition to research, the center is also utilized for extension work - the Animal Sciences Department and the College of Veterinary Medicine utilize the sheep center to teach various labs.
The current Sheep Center was constructed in 1991, following a legislative appropriation of $300,000, in order to replace the older, dilapidated sheep barn that occupied the nearby space. The new construction added two more pens for flock management, a continuous roof, and a better livestock handling flow.
