Known Issue with Autzen Computers

As of Winter 2021, the computers in the Autzen Classroom have a known issue where, on occasion, some do not boot up. The easiest fix is to unplug and replug the cord from the brick, which is located under the table where the computer sits.

Leaving Autzen

  • Restart computers at the end of class
  • Turn off projector(s) with Crestron panel
  • Erase whiteboard(s)
  • Return chairs & tables to their original configuration
  • Turn off microphone & return to Circulation Desk
  • Turn lights off (turn off the two lighted power switches in the center of the bank of lights)
  • Flip the classroom usage sign back to “open study”

Using Zoom with Autzen technology

Autzen is equipped with video-conferencing equipment including built-in microphones, speakers, and a presenter camera. This equipment can provide an audio and video feed of the Autzen Room to remote participants in a Zoom meeting. Inviting Autzen into a Zoom meeting allows all Zoom meeting attendees to see and hear what is going on in the Autzen Room. This also means that those in Autzen can see and hear the remote participants in the Zoom meeting.

Inviting Autzen to participate in a Zoom Meeting

  1. Using either the room computer or your own laptop (connected to the room technology using the supplied HDMI cable), start your Zoom meeting. Join the meeting with Computer Audio.
  2. If you are an alternate host, start the meeting through the email you received from the original host. If you are using the room computer, you can log into your email through the web client.

Sharing Your Content to Remote Zoom Meeting Participants

(excerpted from this Zoom help document “How Do I Share My Screen”)

  1. Click the Share Screen button located in your meeting controls.
  2. Select the screen you want to share. You can also choose an individual application that is already open on your computer, the desktop, a whiteboard, or an iPhone/iPad.

Click the microphone select icon (the ^ next to the microphone icon) on your meeting controls. Select "Line (TesiraFORTE)" under the "Select a Microphone" heading. For best audio quality for recording, accessibility, and remote participants, please use the lapel microphone.

Using the Camera

The presenter camera is located on a pillar to the upper-left of the presenter. Use the remote control labeled "camera" in blue tape to:

  • Zoom in or out
  • Pan the camera
  • Focus

If the camera does not respond to the remote, press the white "1" button first.

Using Crestron, instructor computer, and projectors (for Presentation or Webinar)

To start the system:

  1. Wake up the CRESTRON panel (if it is dark) by touching the Start button in upper right corner;  the Beaver logo will display on the panel
  2. Touch screen (again) to start
  3. Login to the computer (see Computer Login & Wake Up/Start Up module on this page)
  4. Touch the Computer  button on the CRESTRON panel to start the projectors and lower all six screens; projectors will take a minute or so to warm up and display image

If sound is needed:

  1. Adjust the audio for the microphone using the CRESTRON panel. It should be just loud enough to reinforce your voice: if it's too loud there will be feedback. You may also get feedback if the microphone is too close to the speakers.
  2. Make sure the computer audio is on. Use the computer or Zoom audio to fine-tune the volume.

To shut the system down:

  1. Touch System OFF button on the CRESTRON panel
  2. Confirm that selection by touching YES on the confirmation screen
  3. Restart the computer

Using Projector Freeze/Projector Blank/Auto Image

The projectors have several features that make managing presentations easier. These buttons are located on the CRESTRON panel.

  • PROJECTOR FREEZE: press to "freeze" current image for the audience; the presenter can move through slides or navigate to different websites without the audience seeing these actions. Press "freeze" again to release the image and give audience view of the new live current image.
  • PROJECTOR BLANK: press to "blank" the current image; audience will only see black on the screen even though the projector is on. Press "Blank" again to return audience to view of the current image on the computer.
  • AUTO IMAGE: use if image is slightly cutoff on the screen; this will sync the image

Using the Lapel Mic

  1. Checkout the Autzen lapel mic from the circulation desk.
  2. Turn the mic on by pressing and holding the mute button. It's on the top of the lapel mic.
  3. Adjust the volume on the Crestron panel by touching the Speech Volume buttons on the bottom right.
  4. Turn the mic off by pressing and holding the mute button.
  5. Return the mic to the circulation desk.
