Find Books at OSU

Use 1Search from the library's home page to search for books in the Valley Library, OSU branch libraries, and Summit Libraries.

The primary book collection is located at the McDowell Veterinary Medicine branch library but there are also books located at the Valley and Guin Libraries. Ebooks are available as well.

For more detailed help in using 1Search, you can check out the 1Search Research Guide.

Limit to Items in OSU Libraries (Online Catalog)

Choose the At OSU Libraries only scope to search all of the OSU Libraries collections.  This includes Vet Med, Valley, Guin and OSU Cascades. This option is available after you enter your initial search terms. If you need a book from Valley, Guin or OSU Cascades, look at the request options. You can have Valley, Guin or OSU Cascades items placed on hold and pick them up at Valley.  Items at McDowell Library are for use in the library only. Anyone can access McDowell Library Monday - Friday from 8am - 5pm.  If you are affiliated with the College of Veterinary medicine, you have 24/7 access. Confused?  Ask Mary and she can help negotiate the options with you.

How do I find Ebooks?

To search for an ebook, type in the title of the ebook.

Click on the Online Access link to access the content.

If you are in the full record, click on the View Full Text or Full Text Available at link in the View Online section.

How do I get a book from another library?

You can request a book from another library if the OSU Libraries' copy is checked out or if we don't own a copy.

If the availability of the items says Check for available services, that means we either do not own the item or it is currently checked out.

Click on Check for available services

  • If the book is available in Summit (our Washington-Oregon-Idaho) consortium, you will see a Place Summit request link in the How to get it section. Click on the link and select a pick-up location.

  • If the book is not available from an OSU or Summit library, you can request to borrow a copy from another library using Interlibrary Loan. If this is your first time placing an interlibrary loan request, you will need to register for an account. Choose New Request/Book Physical Item to fill out the form to request a book. You do not need to know where the book is located. The Interlibrary Loan staff figure that out for you! You will receive an email notification when your book arrives.

Off-Campus Access to Library Resources

Current OSU students, faculty, and staff must enter their ONID login information and DUO authentication to access OSU Libraries' resources. If an online resource is not working properly through the Libraries' proxy connection, OSU's VPN service can be used. Some OSU services require connecting via the VPN. For full VPN installation steps, see the VPN set up guide and select your operating system. Off-campus access is not available to non-OSU-affiliated people.

To learn more, read how to set up off-campus access to OSU Libraries' resources.
