Research Posters and Presentations

Tips and resources for creating a research poster.

Why Make a Research Poster?

A research poster is a visual tool that allows you to present your research in a concise format. A research poster should be designed to attract attention and convey information in a clear and organized way.  Well-designed posters should work to create conversation between the researcher and the individuals viewing the poster.

Tips for a good poster

  • Title is informative and catchy
  • Font sizes are readable from about 6 - 10 feet away
  • Headings and organization make it easy to read
  • Try to keep text brief
  • Word count of 300 - 800 words
  • Use high-resolution images and graphics

Getting Started

Before starting to design your poster, consider these things:

  1. Determine the scope of what you will present

  2. Who is the audience?

  3. What is the relevant data, figures, and/or graphics you want to highlight?
