ANS 280: Companion Animal Management

Research guide to support library research for Oregon State University's ANS 280, Companion Animal Management class.

Welcome Ecampus Students

It's your library, too!  Just because you are not in Corvallis does not mean you can't use the library.

The OSU Libraries is here to help you with your research. We offer research assistance, access to online journals, document and book delivery services, and much more. This page walks you through how to use those resources from wherever you are in the world. If you have questions, don't hesitate to contact us.

This guide was created specifically to help you with your research in ANS 280. Use the tabs on the left side of this starting page to find suggestions of where to look for sources for your assignments, tips for choosing appropriate sources, and an explanation of how to correctly cite your sources.

Get Articles for Free

Having trouble getting to the full-text of an article? Always being asked to pay for articles?

Use the library to search for sources, and you'll have access to millions of resources that your student fees have already helped pay for. Information in the other tabs in this guide will help you learn how to work with the library's tools to get full-text articles for free.

Never purchase articles online!!! As an OSU student, you can get any article from just about anywhere for free.

Interlibrary Loan (ILL)/Scan and Deliver is a service provided by the library to get you the journal articles you need for your research.

Here's how it works:

  • If there is a journal article you need and it's not available online, we will make an electronic copy and send it to you.
  • If we don't have the journal here at OSU, we'll get a copy for you from another library and email it to you.

The turn around time is usually as fast as 1-2 days.

What you need to use the Library

If you are off-campus, you will need the following information to access the library:

  • Your ONID user name and password (same one that you use for Canvas)

If you ever come to campus to borrow resources, please bring your OSU ID and a picture ID with you.

Getting Materials from OSU Libraries

The OSU Libraries are here to help you find the research materials you need to succeed. Even if you don't come to campus, you have access to many resources. One of our most important services for registered Ecampus students is our book and document delivery service.

1. We can mail books and other media in the OSU Libraries collection to your home address via FedEx. If we don't have the material, we'll get it from another library and mail it to you. Please note we cannot send materials to PO or APO boxes. In general, we are able to ship outside of the United States.

  • Delivery time: 5-7 days. Please retain your Fedex tracking number.
  • Loan period: Varies according to your status. Books from Summit libraries (Pacific Northwest regional libraries) check out for 12 weeks with one 6-week renewal.
  • Returns: You are responsible for mailing materials back to us. Please use the enclosed free FedEx shipping label.

2. We can also send journal articles. OSU has access to many full-text journals online. However, if we have a print-only journal, we will e-mail you a scanned copy. Journal articles are yours to keep.

  • Delivery time: 1-2 days for 80% of our requests.
