Generative AI Tutorials

How to Use These Tutorials

This guide contains five tutorials. Each tutorial topic area has a mix of video, information to read, and some practice questions to reinforce learning. Some of the tutorials have guided practice exercises to encourage trying out generative AI tools.

Each tutorial takes about 10-15 minutes to complete, so if going through all the tutorials, budget about 45-60 minutes. Only have time for a few tutorials? We recommend starting with:

Using Generative AI Tools Effectively

This tutorial discusses how generative AI tools like ChatGPT can be used in academic research, how to create prompts, and how to cite generative AI tools. Note - while this tutorial refers to ChatGPT, many of the same guidance applies to using CoPilot, the OSU supported AI tool

Creating Multimedia with AI Tools

This tutorial gives examples and inspiration for images, video, and audio that can be made using generative AI tools. Specific prompt suggestions are given to create different types of multimedia. The tutorial also discusses copyright guidance and ethical issues to be aware of, especially when considering using creators' works without permission, the possibility for creating false information, and bias. The exercises on the recognizing AI-generated images module provide practice with actual images.
