Academic Integrity for Students

Sources for students to help combat plagiarism

TurnItIn - What is it?

TurnItIn is a plagiarism prevention tool that is integrated into Canvas. Students submit their papers to TurnItIn in Canvas, and the content is compared to websites, online journals and other student papers in the TurnItIn system. The software generates a report that highlights passages in the paper that match the online sources.  It’s optional for instructors to make TurnItIn reports available to students.

The Student Guide to Submitting TurnItIn Assignments and Student Guide to TurnItIn Originality Reports show you how TurnItIn handles text in your paper that matches other content.  It’s important that you understand how the reports work so you can make sure your sources are correctly cited and take any action, if needed, to avoid unintended plagiarism.
