Map Collections in the Valley Library

The two primary locations for collections of maps in The Valley Library are

  • the main Maps location on the 3rd floor (map)
  • Special Collections and Archives Research Center (SCARC) on the 5th floor (map)

Generally speaking, the 3rd floor location is where you will go to find the general circulating maps collection. Most are located in open cases, cataloged with call numbers, and can be looked up in our online catalog (or, in the case of older maps, in the maps card catalog located near the map cases). There are a few specialized collections on this floor.

SCARC is the location for collections of historic maps, mostly covering Oregon and the Pacific Northwest region. These do not circulate and require assistance of the staff to use them, but all users are welcome. Collection guides for the maps in SCARC's collections can be found online; links to the collection guides for a handful of specific map collections have been included in this Guide.
