Space Availability in the Library : Door counts

Learn about space counting and availabilty in the libraries.

What is SenSource?

sensource iconThe door counts are used to take count of how many individuals walk through our library main doors. This helps us take into account space capacity and also gather numbers to work with our occuspace sensors.  We have these door count sensors at all 3 branches of OSULP.

How do the door counts collect the data?

Door count sensors simply count people coming and out through the door, allowing insights on traffic flow and patterns. This people counting system, or footfall counter, does use overhead cameras to count people entering and exiting through the doors but with such low bandwidth there is no way to distinguish actual people's faces or characteristics.  It does not record or stream the data to a DVR like a security system would do.  It consists of two main components: an overhead sensor or camera that detects the presence of people, and a dashboard for staff to view building counts over time.
