Recommended Databases for Physical Therapy

To identify articles on physical therapy topics, start with these databases.

SPORT Discus
A comprehensive database of sport and fitness literature on topics including sports medicine, exercise psychology, biomechanics, psychology, training, coaching, and physical education and fitness.
Coverage Dates: 1800 - present

PubMed
An extensive collection of research article records and some online book records covering biomedical science (MEDLINE), and related life sciences, behavioral sciences, chemical sciences, and bioengineering topics. MEDLINE records are enhanced with Medical Subject Headings (MeSH terms). Search access to the database is free to all (no OSU affiliation required), and some records include links to free full-text. Records represent about 40 languages.

PsycInfo
Comprehensive collection of records for research articles, book content, and dissertations covering all areas of psychology: animal, applied, clinical, developmental, educational, general, human experimental, general, physiological, social and sport psychology, and treatment and prevention. Searching can be done in English, French, German, Portuguese, and Spanish. Dates: 1887 - present
Web of Science
The Web of Science accesses multidisciplinary information gathered from thousands of scholarly journals. You can also search the databases for articles that cite a known author or article.

Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews (via the Cochrane Library)
- Cochrane Reviews are systematic reviews of research in health care and health policy that is published in the Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews. A systematic review attempts to identify, appraise and synthesize all the empirical evidence that meets pre-specified eligibility criteria to answer a specific research question. Researchers conducting systematic reviews use explicit, systematic methods that are selected with a view aimed at minimizing bias, to produce more reliable findings to inform decision making.
