Citations 101

On this page

You will learn about features embedded in common academic research tools (like article databases or word processing software) that you can use to stay organized and format your citations.

If you are interested in citation managers that you can use throughout the research process, with all of your tools, go to the next page.

Be Careful!

The quality of the citations generated by the tools on this page is only as good as the quality of information provided by the webpages and databases you use.  This varies.

When you use tools embedded in databases and other resources, you cannot control the quality of the information going into your citations before they're generated -- so you have to clean them up afterwards.

Treat your citations as a rough draft -- you may need to edit them to make them useful.
