What is Newsbank?

Newsbank is a database that lets you search thousands of new sources at the same time. Newsbank includes over 4,000 local, regional and national news sources, including the The Oregonian newspaper. News coverage may go back as far as the 1980's, though not for every single new source included in Newsbank. But it is a great tool for doing a broad search for news.

Begin Your Newsbank Search

To begin your Newsbank search for news-related articles, enter topic keywords into one or more fields on the Newsbank search screen. For the search pictured below, I used the More Search Options link below the default search box so that I could create an advanced, targeted search, including a date range (I had to add an extra row on the search screen for the date using the + sign below the last box).

The term that I have circled in red is to highlight that in this database, it may be better to use natural language (rather than medical terms) for your topic concepts since news sources are not scholarly sources. So I used "heart disease" rather than "cardiovascular disease" for this example.

Explore Your Search Results

Once you have generated search results, you can further explore them by using the results limiters on the left side of the screen. Open any of the limiter options using the "+" to see the full range of options for that specific limiter.
