The Distributed AI Research Institute is a fiscally sponsored project of Code for Science & Society (CS&S), a US-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit supporting open collaboration in public interest technology. DAIR was founded in 2020 by Dr. Timnit Gebru. Previously Dr. Gebru was the co-lead of the Ethical AI research team at Google.

The Algorithmic Justice League's mission is to raise public awareness about the impacts of AI, equip advocates with resources to bolster campaigns, build the voice and choice of the most impacted communities, and galvanize researchers, policymakers, and industry practitioners to prevent AI harms.
