Adding Page Numbers to Your Document

  1. Open your multi-paged document in Word
  2. Select the "Insert" Tab
  3. Select the "Page Number" button found at the in the Header & Footer Column
  4. Select "Top of the Page" button on the drop down menu, should be the first option
  5. Select "Plain Number 3" option to display your page numbers at the top right of your header (top of page)
  6. After following these steps Word automatically continues the number sequencing for you on subsequent pages

Adding Headers or Footers in Your Document

Header

  1. Open your working document in Word
  2. Select the "Insert" Tab
  3. Select the "Header" button found at the in the Header & Footer Column
  4. Select the built-in "Blank" option on the drop down menu, should be the first option
  5. With the "Blank" header selected you can start adding things to the header as you desire
  6. When finished editing your header make use to click the "Close Header and Footer" button 
  7. After following these steps Word automatically displays your original edits to the header to your subsequent pages

To add a footer to your document follow the same steps above but make sure to select Footer instead of Header

Creating Tables Within Your Word Document

  1. Open your working document in Word
  2. Select the "Insert" Tab
  3. Select the "Table" button found in the Tables Column
  4. Add number of columns and rows you want

Adding Columns/Rows

  • Right-click a cell in the table
  • add a column/row next to the selected cell

Delete Columns/Rows

  • Right-click cell in table
  • Choose delete column/row from drop down menu

How to Format Tables in Your Word document.

  1. Click cell in table to open "Table Tools Tabs"
  2. Under Layout tab
    • Options for formatting "Rows & Columns"
    • Options for formatting "Cell Size"
    • Options for formatting in cell text alignment
  3. Under Design tab
    • Options for formatting table style
    • Options for adding borders to your table

MANUAL PAGE BREAK
  1. Place the cursor where you want the page break to occur
  2. Select "Insert" Tab
  3. Select "Page Break" on the left side of the ribbon (menu options)
DELETE PAGE BREAK
  1. Select "Home" Tab
  2. Select "Show/Hide Paragraph Marks". Its the top right button on the paragraph column
  3. Double click the page break you wish to get rid of, make sure its highlighted in gray
  4. Press your "Delete" key

CHANGE ORIENTATION OF THE WHOLE DOCUMENT
  1. Select "Layout" Tab
  2. Select "Orientation" button on the Page Setup column
  3. Select Portrait or Landscape option
CHANGING SPECIFIC PARTS OF A DOCUMENT TO LANDSCAPE
  1. Select/highlight specific content you want to change to landscape
  2. Select "Layout" Tab
  3. Click the bottom right arrow of the page setup column
  4. Select the orientation of the document to be "landscape"
  5. While still in the Dialog Box:
  6. Select the drop down menu near the bottom labeled apply to:
  7. Choose select text
  8. Click ok to apply changes
  9. Reverse changes by doing the vise-versa of instructed

Adding Images to Your Document

  1. Place your cursor where you want the image
  2. Select the Insert tab 
  3. Select "Pictures/Online Pictures" button
  4. Select image(s)
  5. Confirm you selection by clicking the "Insert" button

Formatting Images in Your Word Document

  1. Use sizing handles (white circles boarding your image) stretch, shrink, change size of picture
  2. Use picture tools on format tab  to rotate, align, position, etc.

How to Add and Format Text in Your Word Document.

  1. Place the cursor where you want to add text
  2. Replace text and type what you want to be formatted there instead
  3. Format by select edit options on the home tab
  4. change font, size, color, boldness, etc. for text

How to Create and Edit Styles in Your Word Document

  1. Place cursor where you want the format text
  2. Select a specific style to format from the Styles gallery on the Home tab
  3. Right-click the style you want to change then click update [style name] to match selection
  4. In the mini toolbar click Styles 
  5. Select Create a Style
  6. Once you format your new style give it a name and then click OK

  1. Format all headings of doc to heading 1 style
  2. Select blank page to place table of contents
  3. Select References tab
  4. Select the Table of Contents button
  5. Select pre-built table option
    1. Make sure what you want to be included in the table of contents is formatted correctly
  6. Make edits and select update table.
    1. Update entire table
    2. Update page numbers only if they shifted in doc
