OSU Libraries and Services during COVID-19

Reserve a Seat

The Valley Library building plans to be open by reservation only. Reservations can be made in advance online, or when you arrive at the library. Please wear your face covering, and follow signs requiring physical distancing.

OSU's physical distancing policy requires all OSU locations to configure spaces to allow for physical distancing. Floor capacities in the Valley Library have been revised to meet university regulations for the mitigation of COVID-19. The reservation system allows library workers to create clearly defined spaces and workstations with appropriate physical distancing, and to keep the number of students per floor under the maximum capacities defined by OSU. The reservation system also allows library workers to know which workstations need to be cleaned and when they need to be cleaned.

What you need to know about reservations

  • Seats are defined as quiet, single-person study spaces (a comfy chair, a seat at a table, or a seat at a computer workstation).
  • Seats can be reserved for a minimum of 30 minutes up to two hours.
  • Seat reservations begin either at the top of the hour or on the half hour.
  • You can make one advance reservation per day at least 12 hours in advance.

What to expect when you arrive at the library

  • When you arrive at the main doors of the Valley library you will be greeted by a staff member who will check you in if you have an advance reservation or create a reservation for you.
  • You will be required to wear a face covering and follow signage encouraging physical distancing in accordance with OSU policies.
  • A staff member will either escort you to your seat, or show you the way on a map.
  • Each seat has a sign identifying the seat number and a corresponding QR code.
  • Each seat has a tabletop flip chart with notices showing whether the seat is available, needs cleaning, or the occupant will be coming back soon.
  • We are not allowing food in the library at this time. While the water fountains are covered, the water bottle refill stations are available.
  • The library is open for quiet, individual study only. Plan to spend the majority of your time in your reserved space.
  • Use headphones when listening to music or videos.
