OSU Libraries and Services during COVID-19

Returning Items

Due dates have been extended for some materials:

  • For ILL and Summit items (i.e. materials not owned by OSU), check your library account for their due date, or contact ILL staff with questions.
  • For current OSU affiliates (Valley and Guin libraries), OSU-owned items will be extended until 1/4/21.
  • Your materials will be held in quarantine for 7 days before being checked in, so they will remain on your account during that time. You will not accrue fines during this quarantine period.

Valley Library:

  • Books and small, non-fragile items can be placed in the book return slot at any time.
  • Other materials can be dropped off in the building lobby during our Carry-Out Service hours (Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. - 5 p.m.).
  • If you need other arrangements please, email us.

Guin Library:

  • Materials can be returned to the outside book drop at any time (look for a silver pull-down drawer built into the library's north wall).
  • Larger items (board games, puzzles, etc.) may be returned during our curbside hours--Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday 8:00am-12:00pm--into the large blue bookdrop at our front door, weather permitting.
  • If you need other arrangements please, email us.

OSU - Cascades Library:

  • The library will be open Monday-Friday, 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.
  • If you are OSU - Cascades student, staff, or faculty, you can return items to the library front desk during open hours and books can be returned to our book drop after hours.
  • If you are not affiliated with the OSU - Cascades campus, you can return items to the OSU - Cascades mailroom Monday-Friday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Email library staff at if you have any questions.

Quarantine & Cleaning

We have set up dedicated spaces where we will quarantine returns before lending them again. Our workflows for quarantine were created following the recommendations of the Reopening of Archives, Libraries and Museum Project (ReALM).
