OSU Libraries and Services during COVID-19

During winter 2021, some floors in the Valley Library will be closed to the public. These floors are being used to store furniture, provide space for quarantining returned items, and to provide staff with appropriately distanced work spaces. If you need materials from a closed floor, don't worry! You'll still have access through our Carry Out services (see the Carry Out Services box below for more information). Here's the basic workflow:

  • Search for the materials you need using 1Search.
  • Place the items you want on hold.
  • Pick up the materials using our Carry Out service.
  • Or, if you would prefer, ask for them to be mailed to you with our Home Delivery service.

What can I borrow?

Books:  You can use 1Search to place holds on books.

Other materials:

  • If you want to borrow something that you cannot place on hold, let us know! We'll try to make it work.
  • Materials will be quarantined as needed between users. Materials will be checked in and removed from patron accounts after the quarantine period; you will not accrue fines during the quarantine period.
  • To make arrangements to borrow technology and other materials, contact us in one of the following ways:

Placing holds

  • Use 1Search on the OSU Libraries homepage to search for information. Many items (for example, e-books) can be downloaded immediately. If you find an item that is only available in print, follow the prompts to Request OSU's Copy.
  • You can only place holds on books.
  • By default, the item will be held for you to pick up during our Carry-Out Service hours (check hours:
    • You can choose the Valley Library, Guin Library or OSU Cascades Library.
  • You can request that the item be mailed to you instead using OSU's Home Delivery system.
