DHE 263: Human-Centered Design, Theories and Strategies

Library guide for the course

1Search: the place to start

Access 1Search from any library webpage in the top right corner.

1Search is the library's discovery tool--it is not only our catalog for books held here at OSU, it is also the Summit shared catalog, showing you books and other resources available at our academic partner libraries throughout the Northwest, most of which you can borrow (delivered within 3-5 business days, free of charge).

But it also searches across our many databases, to show you a wide variety of journal, newspaper and magazine articles, maps, videos and government documents on your subject.

You can find "facets" on the left of a 1Search results page to use to quickly focus your search to the type of resource you want.

If you need a more in-depth search of specific databases you may choose one of them to search directly from the Library Databases list on the OSU Libraries page.

Find Course Reserves

Your instructor has placed several resources on Course Reserves. These are kept at the Circulation Desk in the Library, and generally circulate for 3 hours only.

To find these:

Click on the Course Reserves tab in 1Search.

Use the drop down tab to search by Course Name or Number or by Course Instructor.

Note: Watch your spacing. If DHE263 does not work, try DHE 263.

Course reserves

Copy down the VR number of the item you want and take it to the Circulation Desk.

Borrowing from Other Libraries

First see if a book is available through a Summit library in 1Search, if it is you can request by clicking "Availability & Request Options" then "Place Summit Request". If it's not, request it through Interlibrary Loan.

Articles in journals:
Request through Interlibrary Loan. Articles are delivered electronically, so the turnaround time is often 24 hours or less, but may take up to 5 working days. The first time you use Interlibrary Loan, you'll have to complete a registration form. If you find the article in 1Search you can request it by clicking "Availability & Request Options" then "Request from Interlibrary Loan."

About Interlibrary Loan

Interlibrary Loan (ILL) is available to currently registered OSU students, current and emeritus faculty, and staff with a valid ONID account. OSU Libraries pay for the cost of providing materials from other libraries. Use Interlibrary Loan to request items not found in OSU Libraries (Valley, Guin, and OSU-Cascades) or in the Summit catalog.

Look for the Request from Interlibrary Loan link when you are searching 1Search. However if the book or article you are looking for does not appear in 1Search, you can go directly to the ILL form: You will need to register the first time you use ILL, but we'll remember you after that!
