Start Your Research: Explore Broadly (offered: 10/16 & 11/6)
Starting your research paper can be a daunting task. Though each assignment will vary, exploring your topic and setting up a plan is an important early step. In this session we will cover the basics of a research strategy to get you started.
Focus Your Research: Databases & Key Terms (offered: 10/23 & 11/13)
Unsure where to find the most relevant articles for your discipline? Feeling overwhelmed by a search results list? In this session we will talk about how specific databases and words will make your search more effective and efficient.
Capture Your Research: Research Logs & Note Taking (offered: 10/30 & 11/20)
Once you've figured out what to research and how to find articles, the next step is keeping track! In this session we will talk about tips for logging your research and strategies for managing your notes to get the most of out the research you've done.
Use One Good Source to Find Others (offered: 10/16 - 11/20)
Got one or two really good sources but need more for your project or paper? Learn to use a source you already have to find additional useful sources. We'll explore using tools like Google Scholar, Web of Science and even Wikipedia.
Does creating a bibliography make you want to tear your hair out or cry? Ever lose that perfect reference in a stack of notes? Come learn about Zotero (a free, web-based tool) that can create reference lists or bibliographies with a click of a button. As an added bonus, Zotero also helps you keep track of all the references you find in one place.
All workshops are in the Autzen Classroom (Valley 2082) on the main (2nd) floor of the Valley Library.
