Borrowing Books from OSU

Book Delivery Services

Where to return books

You can borrow books, videos, government documents and other materials from the OSU Libraries. We send the books to you via FedEx (we cannot ship to a P.O. or A.P.O Box).

It is your responsibility to mail them back to us. Please keep in mind that you are responsible for the book once it leaves the building.

Please make sure we have your correct address. If you have moved or changed you name, we need to know.

Please return OSU Library materials by US Mail, FedEx, or UPS. Send the items to the library address listed below. You may wish to use a form of delivery that provides a receipt, since you are responsible for the items until the library receives them.

Please note that you need to be currently

Getting books from other regional libraries (Summit)

You can search for books in the Summit system (37 academic libraries in Washington, Oregon and Idaho) and have them shipped.

  • Search for the title of the book you want in 1Search. Use the OSU Libraries + Summit scope.
  • Click on the Availability and Request Options tab
  • Click on Request from Summit to borrow the book. The loan period for Summit items is 6 weeks, no renewals.

If you live in Oregon/Washington, you can use your OSU ID to use another Summit Library. Bring your OSU ID and a picture ID.

Books not at OSU or in Summit

For books that are not available in at OSU or in a Summit library, and for journal articles, you can request an Interlibrary Loan.

When you enter your account information, select the Status field which indicates you are either a Distance Education student or a Remote Faculty or Staff. Items that are not electronic will be mailed to you.

Interlibrary loans may be tentatively renewed online or by phone at (541) 737-4488. Please request renewals 3-5 days before the due date. You will be contacted if the library that owns the material does not allow the renewal.

Is this book available near me?

WorldCat lists books that are available at other libraries in the United States, and sometimes in other countries. If a book you want is not listed in the OSU Libraries catalog or at a  Summit library,  you might want to check WorldCat to see if the book is available at a library near you. Generally it will be faster to get the book from a local library or you can at least review it while you wait for the OSU copy to arrive.

Go to WorldCat.org

Type in the title of the book or keywords to describe your topic:

Search for a book in WorldCat.org

Click on title of the book or item you want. You can also look to see who has other editions of the book by clicking on the View all editions and formats link.

Click on thte title of the book.

To see if OSU has the item, click on FindIt@OSU. If you want to know if the book is in a library near you, scroll down and enter your zip code.

Enter your zip code to see if the book is available in a library near you

If there is no copy in your area, you can place an Interlibrary Loan request with the OSU Libraries and we'll borrow it for you from another library and mail it to you. You just need to mail it back to us.
